Sewage Clean Up FAQ
Why is sewage different from water? Sewage contains bacterial contamination, fecal matter, parasites and a multitude of other organisms. These will lead to sever health issues left untreated.
Do I need to move out of the house while the work is going on? If the loss and work is contained in the crawl space you maybe able to remain in the property if we are able to effectively treat the contamination. If the loss is in the living area, no you must move out.
Will the Sheetrock need to be removed? Any porous material that the sewage came into contact with should be removed. Normally the framing and sub flooring can be saved if treated properly.
Will a layer of dirt need to be removed from the crawl space? No, our two procedure approach assures that all the contamination is neutralized. Once, the physical contamination is removed, both liquid and solids, the soil is treated with MDF-500 foam, this foam slowly dissolves and penetrates into the soil killing all bacteria, viruses mold and all other toxic organisms. Secondly, we fog the exposed framing and air in the crawl space which effectively neutralizes all remaining organisms.
Do contents that come in contact with the sewage need to be disposed of? Yes, the IICRC industry standard S-500 calls for the disposal of all soft goods that have come in contact with the sewage. Trying to clean soft goods would do as much harm leaving them discolored or unusable. Hard goods can be cleaned and treated.
Will it smell of sewage? No, as the bacteria are killed so is the odor they give off. It may have a slightly smell of Hydrogen Peroxide.
Will the ground still be wet? No, after the area has been effectively treated, the entire crawl space is dried down to acceptable levels by our specialized furnaces and dehumidifiers. You,never want to dry any contaminated area before it is treated and the contaminate is neutralized, this would disperse the contamination into other areas or into the living space.
