Cancer is the primary killer in the US, recently surpassing heart disease. Despite its far reach and considerable costs, we know very little about the quality of care provided and its costs. And our health care system is far from delivering the high-value cancer care that it should: care that is proven to be effective, is affordable, and is what patients want. CHCF is working to fill these gaps.
To date, CHCF has worked to improve cancer care in two main ways: (1) by increasing transparency so that patients, providers, payers, policymakers, and others have better information about the quality and costs of cancer care; and (2) by helping providers honor patients’ individual preferences at the end of life. We continue to look for additional opportunities to make cancer care work for all Californians.
